University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of LawLegal education in Little Rock began in 1878 with a group of men known as the "Little Rock Law Class," who read for the bar together. The University of Arkansas converted this group to a formal academic program in 1893, changing its name to the University of Arkansas Law Department. In 1913, the Law Department split from the University of Arkansas and became the Arkansas Law School, a private, bar-sponsored institution. In 1965, a part-time division of the University of Arkansas School of Law at Fayetteville opened in Little Rock, and the Arkansas Law School graduated its last class two years later. In 1975, the Legislature moved the part-time division to UALR and created the School of Law of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, offering both full-time and part-time divisions. UALR graduated its first law school class in the spring of 1978. The UALR School of Law is fully accredited by the American Bar Association and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools. Our building is located six miles from the UALR campus, on the southern edge of downtown Little Rock, in MacArthur Park. The School of Law has a student body of approximately 400 in the combined full-time and part-time divisions. Although most students are Arkansas residents, we have students from more than 20 states, and our students have degrees from more than 100 colleges and universities. The 26 members of the full-time faculty are augmented by adjunct faculty members, local attorneys and judges who teach in their areas of expertise. Since 1992, the School of Law has been housed in a new facility which ranks among the best in the United States. The Law School is located in the historic Quapaw Quarter district on the southern edge of downtown Little Rock. Adjacent to the school is MacArthur Park, providing a beautiful campus-like atmosphere and containing the Arkansas Arts Center. The Law School building was originally constructed during the 1930s to house the state medical school. The building was completely gutted and a library addition added. The resulting 140,000 square-foot structure guarantees sufficient space for present and future needs of the Law School. For More InformationUniversity of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law
